Tunneling external servers to our network

Greetings,

I believe this is a simple scenario with a simple solution, but wanted to ask for any "best practices" or whatever.

I've got a few servers outside my network that I'd like to have utilize internal resources, which are behind our Astaro box.  I'd like to use VPN with certificates and avoid storing plain text passwords in any config file if I can avoid it.  Do I approach this like I'm setting up regular user accounts?  Can I just cenerate a certificate for each server and use that with the OpenVPN client and not create a "user" account?

Any guidance is appreciated.
