Hallo,
in my opinion one of the most annoying things with Astaro VPNs is the OpenVPN client which does not work correctly in Windows 7 as a 'normal' user. You always have to use 'run as an administrator' or other work arounds that do not satisfy me. So I kept searching for an alternative client and finally I found a solution.
I hope it is allowed to post the link. The client is licensed under GPL. This should be no problem but it seems to be relatet to a copetitive product. So it is the decision of the mods to remove or leave the link.
The client can be fount at sourceforge here: OpenVPN Client Windows - Browse Files at SourceForge.net
I used the most recent version (RC3). After installing the client you can import the .ovpn-config file from your normal astaro client install directory and that's it. It simply works as a normal user. In the background the client uses a system service which handles the connection and creates the routes. So the client GUI itself doesn't need elevated rights.
Because the source code is GPL I really hope that Astaro will have a 'closer look' and integrate the usefull parts in it's own client. I think many users would appreciate a better Astaro SSL VPN client.
Hope this information helps some of you. Have fun!
Stephan
