Free Home Use Connect to Work or Friends

Using the home/personal use ASG I set up a site to site vpn.  On the web page: Astaro Internet Security - Free Home Use Firewall
it states:

"Connect to Work or Friends - Create a permanent tunnel to other ASG devices, linking you with a friends network, or having the perfect encrypted link to your office Astaro to work from home!"

But once I installed the free home user license my vpn tunnel was shut down.  I would like to back up my personal media and data off site to a work computer over the vpn.  Is the link above out of date or is there another "perfect encrypted link'"/"permanent tunnel" I need to configure?

    It's difficult to see why you're having a problem.  Which VPN did you establish?  With which device at work?  What do you mean by the "tunnel was shut down?"

    I set up a site to site vpn using ipsec.  After I installed the personal license the connection was "grayed out" on the screen.  There was an error message at the top that stated my license did not support this feature.  I am unable to edit the site to site settings because they are grayed out.  Just before installing the personal license (day 2 of my 30 day free trial license) the site to site vpn connection working fine and I could remote desktop to the computers at work.

    It sounds like you have a "Free Essential Firewall" license instead of the free "Home-Use" license.  Copy it here if you want confirmation.  Don't forget to obfuscate your personal information.

    Try re-applying the license.  That looks corrrect to me.  You aren't installing this on an Astaro apppliance are you?

    I will try tonight.  I have installed the ASG software on an old Dell computer.  

    I did see in the user manual some information I pasted below that gave me the impression the home user did not get access to the site to site ipsec vpn.  I am hoping this is not the case [:)] for all the reasons listed on: Astaro Internet Security - Free Home Use Firewall

    Below is from the manual, which you probably already know.
    "4.3.2 OnDemand Licensing
    Astaro's OnDemand licensing model is easier and much more flexible than the classic
    licensing model. First, there is a base license, similar to the free home user
    license of the classic licensing model, providing basic functions for free—and not

    anymore for home users only but also for business users.

    I had the same issue and it turned out the license "started" the next day.  Did you get issued the license today?

    I issued the license last night.  But I am at work now so I will have to wait to test it tonight.

    Don't worry, the home license has ALL features except possibly clustering/hardware failover.

    BTW, please specify which version you're using, e.g. 8.003 or 8.100

    Check / Adjust your Astaro's system time and time zone; I bet the license is not in effect yet because of the time being incorrect (or time zone).  Common issue.
