Hi
How will the SSL/OpenVPN client in Astaro Userportal work in Windows 7 X64. Are there any major or minor issues I should be aware of before setting this up?
The main issue is that the VPN Client will not operate properly unless it is run as Administrator; this can be set by right-clicking on the openvpn-gui.exe file (found under your C:\Program Files (x86)\Astaro\Astaro SSL VPN Client\bin folder) and setting the compatibility checkbox to force it to run as Admin. The client will appear to run correctly without this setting being made, and connect, but it will not be able to add the appropriate routes to the local routing table, thus no traffic will be routed across the VPN as it should be.
My understanding is that the Openvpn folks are working on a new VPN client that does not require the end user to be a local admin (or network operator) to connect properly, I imagine once that is a release-ready product, we'll see Astaro add it to their product.
one of my customers used the OpenVPN-client for Windows 7 64bit without problems. Since a few days the client will not work any longer. The connection will be established but the routes are not set. The client will be used with local admin-rights. My customer uses ASG V7.507.
