Site-to-Site - Compression or not ?

Topic states it;

Config; 8 offices, all are very new ASG220's with approx 20-50 users at each site. Each site has a 100Mbit LeasedLine.

Central HQ, were more or less all site-to-site traffic goes to, is Astaro Software based install on a QuadXeon system with 4gb's or ram
(Intel rack-server )

So,, issue/question is;
Should compression remain off, which seems to be the default in all supplied configs ?, or, could it be of benefit to switch on compression between all sites ?

My guess is the latter, since a lot of the user experience is related to using explorer to browse for files on servers on either side of the VPN.

My own test's done so far showed at least for me a very good peformance increas to/from my home-office and the hq. But, at home I only have 5down/1up ...


Any ideas ?, My guess is that the ASG's and the central A-software should handle it..

    well, yeah,, I was thinking/wondering about that trade-off also, though as of today,
    we never have any real util on these boxes and at the same time, people complain about the performance as they experience it. And this "experience" is often related to the small stuff such as browsing through explorer,etc,, which at least feels a lot quicker.

    I'll do a test between a couple of the sites and try to keep my eye on the util/behaviour...
