Noob's guide to Remote Access via iPhone

I've installed the ASG 8 software on a spare computer in my home network for testing. I'm amazed at the concept of remoting in via my iPhone, but all the instructions assume I know a lot more about networking than I do. And, actually, more about the iPhone too. I mean, I see Settings > General > Network > VPN, but I have no idea what to put in the fields.

Is there a guide for ASG8 - to - iPhone remoting?

    I recommend you use L2TP over IPsec, but the instructions for the Cisco client are easier to follow, so read them first to understand the process of loading Astaro VPN profiles into your iPhone: https://support.astaro.com/support/index.php/iPhone_IPSec_VPN_connection_to_Astaro

    I saw that earlier. It says "Navigate to the end user portal (by default, this is the ASG's hostname on port 443, https://asg.domain.com  for instance)". This is just the free edition on my home network, no domain (and no WiFi at present). I'm thinking the remote access requires a higher-level network than what I've got.

    If I'm wrong (and I'd love to be) how would I make the connection described in the quote from the support document ("Navigate to the end user portal")?? Thanks

    Hi Varil,

    The EUP (end user portal) isnt enabled by default for security/preference reasons. The admin (in this case you) can enable it via the WebAdmin menu under the UserPortal settings. There you can enable from where it can be accessed (like "any" or restrict to Internal Network only, mine is at "any"), along with who can login with their name and password (just some, or all users?).

    Then it should appear and be ready for you. For the VPN part, make sure your user(s) are configured for the iphone vpn via cisco client (IPSec) or l2tp, otherwise those options wont appear to those user(s) once logged in.  EUP (along with all features) are fully enabled for home use in every way, with the only restriction being the 50 ip limit.

    the wording can be a bit off putting at first but I assure you its relatively easy.

    You can access the user portal the same way you would access WebAdmin minus the :4444 at the end. 

    Since AngeloC already described how to enable it I'll go into how to actually get to it.

    So for example:

    If the address you access WebAdmin on is https://192.168.0.1:4444 then you get to the user portal by putting https://192.168.0.1 in the address bar. You can login with your WebAdmin credentials as well.
