VPN client getting error 619

A remote client trying to establish VPN over WLAN gets "error 619" when trying to connect. According to live log, *something* gets through to me, so we can't be completely wrong. The username/password etc. settings of that machine had worked before, it's just elsewhere now.
I was afraid the "Bad checksum from pppd" could be the fault, but I see that line also appear with a working connection ...
What could still be wrong?
