EDIT: I figured out the answer, don't bother reading unless you really want to.
Ok, I hope someone here can shed some light on this, I'm running into a wall and not sure what else to check.
What I had:
Astaro Gateway, home edition, loaded on a custom box, running 7.501 (but updated to 7.502 and no change).
IP address of Astaro 192.168.1.1
Setup for SSL vpn
2 computers in the house
server: 192.168.1.2 (static assigned)
desktop: 192.168.1.100 (DHCP from Astaro box)
Desktop is windows 7. Server is Microsoft Server 2003.
I have a laptop which is Windows Vista. I was using the VPN client and VPNing into the Astaro box and running remote desktop (trying to connect to machine IP addresses).
Everything works perfectly!
THEN, because a buddy of mine told me I would like it, I "upgraded" my windows server 2003 box to Windows Home Server (with Power Pack 3). Set it to the same IP address as the windows server. Set it up to be able to remote desktop into it. Great that seems to be working fine.
PROBLEM:
I can no longer VPN into my astaro box and remote desktop into my Windows Home Server. It just gives me a "Computer can't connect to the remote computer error".
I can still VPN into my Astaro box, I can still remote desktop into my desktop machine (like always). From my desktop machine, I can remote desktop into my windows home server box. If I bring my laptop into my house I can remote desktop into my windows home server. But if my laptop is outside of the house and VPN's in, I CAN'T remote desktop into my windows home server. I can remote desktop into the desktop (and then from the desktop remote into the home server, but that's weird).
Anyone have a clue?
Obviously there is a difference between remote desktop in the Windows Server 2003 and the Windows Home Server (which is built off server 03, I believe). This isn't necessarily a problem with the Astaro box, BUT I can remote into the windows home server in my house but not outside my house over VPN. So it seems something in the Astaro is blocking the access.
Something I noticed, when I remote into my server from inside the home, BY IP ADDRESS, I get a cert error, or notification saying the cert is for the name of the server not the IP address do I want to continue? I never got that before on the Server 03 box, but didn't set that up either.
Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
