Site to Site VPN Router for general use

Hi

I want to learn this Site to Site VPN thus I would use my relative home broadband as the other site.

The thing is, I do not want to buy a HP Server and deploy Astaro there as cost is a issue, further more, they won't be happy to keep the machine running as it would add to their electricity bill.

Thus I am thinking of deploying a router there but I am not sure which consumer router can support or tested and proven to work with Astaro Site to Site VPN.

Can't afford to buy those Cisco PIX, ASA, SonicWall for home use.

My current "idea / concept" is the remote site would have 100% VPN to my Astaro thus their Broadband would be secured by Astaro.




Any advice on this?

    Just be aware that the Astaro site-to-site VPN is IPSec.  Most home routers don't do that.  Why not just help your cousin configure VPN clients on his computers?

    The main reason is for me to learn.
    I can learn the SSL VPN using my laptop.

    But to learn the Site to Site VPN, I need another broadband location thus I thought of doing it for a relative whose computer I support.

    It would be even better if there are those Mobile Broadband Routers which have IPsec then it is even easier to test at one location.

    An alternative idea, if you just want to practice with it, would be to use a second hard drive in an existing computer.  Load up Astaro on it and practice away.  When you're done, boot the regular O/S up again.
