iPhone, L2TP and Microsoft Exchange

Okay, so i've configured my iPhone (the rest i'll do later) to connect to the L2TP VPN on the Astaro 220.

I can access various internal resources, like for example I can go to an internal web server.

What I however cannot do is get it working with the Exchange server which is the single most important thing. Working over the companies wireless network it works without a hitch.

Connecting to the webmail interface of exchange seems to work, but the mail set-up does not.

All I get when I tell it to refresh in mail is:

Cannot Get Mail
The connection to the server failed.

Any ideas?

Looking in the firewall log it's connecting from the VPN IP pool to 192.168.0.1 fine.

    Did you enter the internal DNS, WINS and domain into the "Remote-Access" "Advanced" sectionto provided them to the L2TP Users?

    I entered the dns server address yes. Are the others required?

    WINS not really. Domain could be an advantage. It's like your on a different subnet and netbios isn't doing the work for you. I think you got a address resolution problem.
    Is there a way to check that on the iphone? Browse the Intranet Webserver or something like that.

    Well, L2TP VPN over 3G/EDGE on the phone doesn't work at all now.

    So, kind of hard to do at the moment.

    When it was working I could browse the intranet web server fine, for example I could login to the exchange intranet webmail fine through safari.

    Mark, since the VPN doesn't automatically re-establish if you lose signal, I suggest that you set the iPhone to connect to Outlook Mobile Access via the external interface of the Astaro.  The WiFi connection devours the iPhone battery, so that's not a good solution either.
