L2TP-IPSec in Vista to ASG 6.303

I have ASG 6.303 setup according to the L2TP-IPSec HOWTO.
I also created a new network connection in Vista and basically followed the XP instructions and made the required changes (including unticking encryption and adding the shared secret (which is also on ASG).

Anyways, from in Vista, it won't connect and gives the following error:

Error 789: The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during the initial negotiations with the remote computer.

Any ideas?

Sorry, very little to no Vista experience yet. I advise my customers to stay the hell away from it unless they want to pay us a gob more money to support it.

Hi!

I got the same error when trying to connect to ASG 6.304 using L2TP and Vista.

The problem for me was that the service IKEEXT (IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules) was set to Manual.

After changing it to Automatic the connection works.
