VPN from China to Germany, possible?

Hello Forum,

i just take this for my first posting here. Hope it fits in here. A customer of ours wants to establish a vpn tunnel from china to Germany. Investigating into the googleracle i only found evidence of working not working, export restrictions and so on.

Does anybody in here actually did this and has some information about usage of encryption algorithms. Allowed or not allowed. Can i use my beloved pair of asg's to accomplish this and are there any caveats in using specific ports blocked by the 'great golden Chinese wall'.

    the only issue i had was trying to ship a cisco pix from germany to china. it wasn't because it's not legal (customs told me there are no restrictions for that kind of deivce to china) but it was just way to difficult to find out who need what document to import a strong encryption device into that country. i spent hours on the phone and we finally decided to buy one locally, but just because of lack of knowledge (tried to handle it with ups and dhl because i thought they should know). it might well be that we could have just shipped it like any other electronic equipment without problems. we just didn't want to risk having an expensive device going to seed in some customs shed. There are so many rumours about china and regulation but I found it's very difficult to get hold of anyone having profound knowledge of things there.

    whatever: i'm running several 3des and aes-256 tunnels from china to europe without any issues.
    i have to add however that the chinese office is located in the free-trade zone in beijing next to nortel, ibm and all the other large us and european corporations. i do not know if internet regulation is different there from the rest of the country.

    i can acknowlege to what tim said. shipping to china is terriable, but astaro gave great support. the managed to sent us the right papers for our customer to ship a pair of asg 220 to china. there were rumors that sometimes the customs make trouble.

    establishing a aes-256 tunnel was no problem.
