I've been using Astaro for about the past 4 years in a VPN environment where the corporate office has an application server that 8 satellite offices connect to. That application server happened to Linux, and our software vendor has forced us to "upgrade" to a Windows server. The upgrade went well, except everyday the application crashes, and the only way to bring it back up is to reboot this new Windows server.
I pose this scenario to the Astaro community because the software vendor is putting the blame on me for not having an adequate VPN, which I disagree.
My ultimate goal is to utilize the reporting functions in order to try to provide proof that the software vendor needs to investigate their Windows server more deeply.
Below are the facts surrounding the problem, and any help or direction would be appreciated:
- 9 total Astaro systems, 1 corporate and 8 satellite all running 5.202
- Configured in a hub and spoke topography
- packet filter between corporate office and each satellite allows for all traffic between any computer, no restrictions
- the Windows application server has no functions except provide an application; it's not part of a domain or WINS or any other function
- when the application on the Windows server shuts down, the corporate office (same network as server) CAN access the application, but the satellite offices cannot; Astaro VPN shows no trouble or is not trying to reconnect when this happens; the satellite offices are able to ping the Windows server, and even view its file shares, but not all file shares as some cause the satellite office computers to lock up
- my records show that my Astaro firewalls have only been rebooted 3 times in 4 years, and that was for upgrades, so my network is very stable
This post may be way out there, but maybe someone could shed some light on the situation, as I haven't been able to sleep much since the new server was installed 3 weeks ago...
