vpn-troubles for remote desktop

hi,

i am runnung ASL 6.100 and i am trying to connect from home to my business-LAN. actually i do get a connection and i can acces my webserver by using IP-adresses .... but it seems, that my dns ist not working properly - so i cant use dns-names and i am not able to see the other computers by using the "network neighbourhood".

is this the failure an reason, why i cannot get up the remote desktop service in my vpn-connection? or do i have to make a special pf-rule to do so?

    What pf-rules do you actually have ?

    For testing purposes you could do something like this:
    From: PPTP-Pool
    To: Internal (Network)
    Service: Any
    Action: Allow

    If everything works fine then, specifiy a Service Group like "PPTP-Services" and add all needed services like DNS, RDP etc.
    Then change your rules service from "Any" to "PPTP-Services"

    In your remote desktop client, call up the target machine by IP address. This will always work. If the LAN with the target machine has a local DNS server,  give the IP address of the local DNS server out as the first choice in your ASL PPTP configuration. Then you can call up the machines on the network that you are establishing VPN connections into by their local DNS names.

    Astaro blocks netbios broadcasts by default (as it should), so you won't be able to browse the machines in "My Network PLaces", unless you have a WINS server running on a Windows server that is also an Active Directory domain controller, and its IP address is entered in your PPTP host configuration  in ASL webadmin.
