PPTP problems in 6.002

To add additional information, we're getting more error messages now:

tcflush failed: Bad file descriptor
tcSetattr: Invalid argument (line 1001)

This is really becoming quite serious for us - does anyone have any suggestions ?

Have you contacted support? Have you tried reinstalling? Have you tried updating to the lates Up2Date?

Increasing the PPTP timeout value, which I did on my ASL v4 box last year, eliminated the VPN drop out problem for me. Since then PPTP connections have been rock solid, I have been able to leave them up for days. There is no setting for it in webadmin, so you'll have to edit the appropriate script manually.

Thanks for the link - I'll try modifying the echo failure and echo interval settings.

FYI - we downgraded to 5.2 and the VPN connections are much more stable today - I wonder what in v6 has changed so much to make PPTP unstable ?

Now that I have set up ASL at the office, I have had a chance to use the PPTP VPN capabilities in ASL v6.004. I have not had any dropped connections so far, but then my VPN traffic doesn't travel very far, since both the office and my home use ADSL service from the same provider (Telus). The PPTP service in ASL v6.004 has shown itself to be quite reliable in this environment, where it is unlikely to suffer from  packet drop problems

As followup to this, there is a definite sensitivity in v6 that wasn't in v5. We have had our ISP change the packet queueing in their router and monitor our circuit. I've changed the lcp-echo-failure and lcp-echo-interval values as previously suggested. We've upgraded the hardware of our ASL unit - more memory, faster processor. The problem remains the same - on v6 our roadwarriors using pptp lose their connections often enough to make the service unusable. The exact same hardware running v5.20x has no disconnect issues.
