Issues with VPN and LAN

I am running Astaro Linux V5 and have set up a VPN PPTP tunnel. I am able to connect and ping my network computers by ip address and access IP based stuff that I should only be able to access on the private lan, but when I go to the network neighbourhood I can't see the computers for my lan at all. 

I know I need WINS and it's installed on the private network, but I am unfamiliar with Astaro and I don't know how to open up the ports to allow WINS.  

I don't think its a good idea to do that but I need to be able to access my shares through VPN and I can't do that I keep getting the network path not found error.  I can't even access shares through ip. eg)\192.168.1.1\share it still gives me network path not found.  

Is Wins really the issue?

    What are the IP subnet numbers on the two ends of the VPN tunnel?
    If they are both the same, such as 192.168.1.x, then you are going to have problems until you change the subnet number in one end.

    Well the IP was the default PPTP address which was along the line of
    10.200.60.x with a subnet of 255.255.255.0

    my internal one is a ten network ip with a subnet of 255.255.255.0  I changed the PPTP Pool to a subnet with 255.255.0.0 but it still didn't work.

    I know there is a routing issue going on, but correct me if I'm wrong when I connect to the internal Network through VPN and can successfully ping a internal computer by its IP I have connectivity right.

    So how come when I try to access a share I keep getting network path not found.  To me that error message tells me that it can't find where the IP is.  Yet It can find it when I ping from the command prompt? 

     The computer I use is outside the firewall to test VPN.  I don't know if I'm on the right track or my thinking's a little messed up.

    [/ QUOTE ]Using a 10.x.y.z series address for your Internal network is not a good choice, unless you really need a private address space large enough to support 16 million PCs on your network. Stick with the 192.168 series addresses instead.

    Microsoft Windows uses classfull broadcast addresses. As an example of this, if you configure a Windows machine with an address of 10.20.30.40, with a netmask of 255.255.255.0, you would expect the machine to use a broadcast address of 10.20.30.255. But it will not. Thanks to the classfull nature of the Microsoft TCPIP stack, which is aware that addresses starting with 10 fits in the range of class "A" network addresses, you will automatically get a broadcast address of 10.255.255.255 instead.

    So if all you need is a 254 node class "C" network, stick with 192.168.nnn.x addressing, where nnn should be a 2 or 3 digit number (not 0 or 1).

    No luck but I think your on the right track. 

    I tried adding a route from a knowldge base article I found on the Astaro site, but that didn't work. 

    I re-checked my packet filter rules, but it's not the case, I set it to the highest postion setting. so it's applied first.  

    I set the new address to 192.168.32.0 255.255.255.0

    Maybe it has something to do with the clients? 

    Could it be a bug in v5 itself.  

    I maybe grasping at straws.

    I appreciate you helping me with this.
