Recent VPN Slowness

For about the past two weeks I've been having problems  with excessively slow site to site VPNs.  Has anyone seen a similar problem with the latest releases of ASL?

I've verified the connections to each of my sites are running well.  I've also disabled IPS, Antivirus, and proxies at each site.  Connections to the Internet from any site is fast, connections between sites (VPN connects) are slow.

Our main site has 3mb of bandwith with remote sites having either 1mb or 1.5mb of bandwidth, depending on the site.  I'm seeing ping times of about 50ms through the tunnel.  Unfortunately, I never monitored ping times prior to this problem so I can't say if these times are slower than what they were.

Other than disabling proxy, Antivirus, and IDS, there have been no changes to any of the ASL boxes other than normal up2date updates.

I'm completely out of ideas.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    I have ping time of about 110 ms and my application under vpn run very well and fast because i work with terminal server

    50 ms is a very very fast reply. The problem can be your application ....

    Thanks for the information.   

    The application I'm using most often over these connections is Lotus Notes (connecting to a Domino server at our main site).  I'll look  deeper at Notes and Domino.

    I've discovered the problem, it was a Network Associates (McAfee) Webshield box.   This particular box sits in front of our DMZ.

    I have no idea why, but the box suddenly  seemed to disallow access from any of our remote networks.   I reformatted the box and restored the config from a backup and the problem went away.  A simple reboot didn't correct the problem.

    I've used these boxes for three years and have never encountered anything like this [:)]

    Just another performance hint:
    If you cannot enable commpression within your VPN tunnels, you can enable it on your Domino server.
    (Communications ports -> TCPIP -> Enable compression)
    If your server has some CPU ressources free, i recommend you to give it a try, you really speed up your Notes/Domino connections !
