clearing up firewall authentication

I need to set up authentication for asl version 5. Which is the most secure form of authenticating users on asl. Is it going to be radius or active directory.  I looked in the manual and read that radius send the users password in clear text  that does'nt sound secure. I'll be using a windows server 2003 ias server.

    RADIUS is an older protocol, and yes, it does use cleartext.
    However, this is not as insecure as you may think, since the RADIUS communication will take place on the internal LAN, between the Astaro box and the separate directory server.

    In a properly designed setup, there is no RADIUS client/server communication over the public Internet.
