L2TP Drops

I have a client that has the LT2p Drop every couple hours. Has anyone else had this problem?  What is the longest connection you guys have had? Does it need to remain active or can it just stay up?

    What about the logile? Maybe it will tell you why it discconnects. Please post it here, than we are able to debug.

    I checked the logs from this morning when my remote user said his connection dropped and didn't see anything obvious.  I did however see the following from earlier in the day:

    ERROR: asynchronous network error report on eth0 for message to xx.xxx.xx.xxx port 4500, complainant xx.xxx.xx.xxx: Connection refused [errno 111, origin ICMP type 3 code 3 (not authenticated)]

    Common log entry:

    did you define a preshared key on ASL and your windows client. Please have a look at http://docs.astaro.org/howtos/. There you will find a good description how to configure your ASL and the Windows client. Hope this helps.

    I used http://docs.astaro.org/howtos/L2TP_Roadwarrior_Guidebook.pdf  to setup this remote connection and don't remember it mentioning PSK's.   Is it standard to use PSK's when setting up remote L2TP connections for road warriors?

    It is. Have a look in chapter 3.9, Client side setup. You have to add an IPSec Key on the client Properties/Security/IpsecSettings as well as on the ASL side. It has to be same one of course.
