VPN Installation

We have an AS400 based network which is connected with 7 other group offices throufg Frame Relay lines. All these group offices have also got high speed internet lines (ADSL) with dynamic IP's. We have been asked to eliminate the frame relay lines and use the existing internet lines to communicate through VPN. Please let me know how your solution of "Astaro Security Linux" can help us in the above scenario. Please let me know whether I require a static IP address at each location i.e each group office. I have multiple clients at each group office. Please point me to some documentation on the above.

    Hi sunjiiv,

    sure you could eliminate your frame relay lines with ASL.
    You don't need fixed IPs in your group offices.
    But it could help you to have a fixed IP in your headquarter.
    So you could use one 'big' ASL box in the HQ and several 'small' ones in the offices, depending of your network size.

    Also don't forget to calculate enough bandwith for your HQ !
    I would recommend to use  S DSL instead of maybe ADSL.
    But with the money you save for the frame relay lines, this should not be the problem.

    Cause you say you use iSeries (AS400) i expect you use 5250 screens ?!
    That's fine because they don't need much bandwith, works even with about 64k very well

    Thanx 4 ur reply. We are ready to go for a single fixed IP at the group head office as suggested by you. We use the 'e ' Series of AS400 and it hosts our JD Edwards ERP ver 7.3. The users at group office are using 'World Vision' client which is a GUI version though not a true one. The bandwidth required is very low as the frame relay lines we use have a CIR of 8K at each group office though the access ports are 64K. On this bandwidth 6 to 8 users are able to login to our server without any bandwidth issues. 
    I have a few questuions for you.
    a. AT the moment we dont have a fixed IP. How can we test your product? 
    b. What exactly do you mean by 'One Big ASL box' at the headoffice? Can we buy this ASL product along with the hardware or are you talking about us installing ASL on a high end PC/Server. We intend to use Linux version of ASL.
    c. None of us at the office are good at Linux - We have a very basic knowledge. Will ASL  be easy to configure. 
    d. Do you have any suggestions for us as to how to go about ASL testing and configuration.
