Hi Simon,
did you try to access windows shares of the remote-network through the VPN-connection? I am still struggling with that...

I can access alll of the shares/etc on my home network through L2TP over IPSec(using PSK).

Allowing traffic from my internal network back out to the VPN client seems to help ?
