I'm starting to look at hardware VPN routers to work against ASL. For home clients and places where small and low power devices are required. I picked up a Dlink DI-804HV and am testing it from my home link.
So far it works pretty good. I can specify an FQDN for the far end (I wish ASL would put this in...) which is nice for dynamic IPs. Of course the options are limited but enough to get a tunnel up.
With only a couple of days testing my concern so far is that the tunnels seem to go down when little traffic is going over the VPN. No pattern so far but there is always a little bit of traffic. The ASL side might still show the tunnel as up and I might have to reboot the Dlink to get it back up.
So far I'm having to use PSK and can't find a way to do RSA etc. with the Dlink.
Anyone using this device and have some insight on best options?
