qos within vpn 4 citrix

Does anyone in this forum have some experience with the qos options in Astaro? I would like to use it to prioritize citrix / ica traffic, and slow down printer traffic over my ipsec vpn / sdsl wan connection. I am very interested in your experience, if any, before i implement this in a production environment.

    bad news for you, QoS isn't possible within an IPSEC tunnel by design (not ours).
    The packets travel first through the IPSEC stack and then through QoS.

    Are you using a print server at each end to shuttle print traffic across the VPN?  Much more efficient if clients send requests to a local print server that knows where the printer is (other end of VPN or local etc.).

    You can then control (depending on print server) traffic flow.  Allows you to make changes to printer destinations, authentication or other needs without changing the client end.  You then only have one machine at each end sending traffic for printing.

    I don't know enough about the current Citrix to help much there.  But you want to have as much traffic as possible being handled by servers instead of clients going directly.  And use a compressed VPN policy which also helps.

    If you don't have any Linux boxes besides ASL you might get benefits from adding one at each end of the tunnel.  Use it for print serving, DNS, SMB, caching or things that will get noisy client traffic off the VPN where you can.
