Unwanted Idle Disconnections

Hi,

I'm sometimes having a PPTP road warrior connection disconnect after a minute or so of inactivlty. The client itself is set to not disconnect on idle so it could be Astaro's VPN doing it. However, I cannot find an idle disconnection setting in Astaro's admin. Does anyone know what may be causing this? It's not always repeatable but seems to happen to recent connections rather than effecting those that have been established for a while - makes me think it specific to the connection rather than to trasient issues over the internet.

The logs come back with errors like:

Feb 19 12:29:58 asl pppd[14522]: No response to 4 echo-requests
Feb 19 12:29:58 asl pppd[14522]: Serial link appears to be disconnected.

Hey,
Just log into the machine locally as root and modify /var/chroot-pptp/etc/ppp/options-default
change the following...
lcp-echo-failure 15
lcp-echo-interval 15

'15' might even be too high, but at least you won't get disconnected.

After that restart Astaro's MiddleWare.. /sbin/init.d/mdw restart

Give it a try!

By the way, what effect will restarting mdw have of users and connections?

Also, am I right in assuming these changes are 'hacks' - in that they are not saved in a backup dump and an upgrade etc will default them back to 4?

Yup. I would also be careful of Up2Dates overwriting them (hasn't happened to me for this particular issue, however)
