and what about the Mac?

Dear all,

working with a Macintosh computer is the one thing, getting these machines running on a vpn the other. Does anyone of you have experience with the vpn connection between macs, w2k servers an an astaro firewall in between? Do I need any extra software, what about configuration and so on... Sorry, but I'm not an expert at all  [:)]

    Shini,

    Astaro runs on 2 protocols for VPN, IPSEC and PPtP (generally microsoft) If you find a VPN client for the MAC that supports these protocols, it will work wonderfully.
    I don't know where to find mac files so I couldnt point you in the right direction, but IPSEC is a standard and should be supported on the mac

    I suspect there are IPSEC clients for Mac (google is your friend).

    However, if you have ASL at boths ends as a firewall (or other IPSEC capable firewalls) you can do a net-net VPN and anything at either end will transparently use it.

    4 mac fans !

    in OS 10.2.x the pptp client is already included ! u only have to configure your connection (instructions in help file !)

    If you want to use IPSEC check out VPN tracker at http://www.equinux.com. Works great under Jaguar

    We currently have over 100 macs at two locations. The offices are connected with Astaro at both ends. 

    Our users can access file servers at either side, send messages with Timbuktu, and print to servers at either side.

    VPN access is provided through the built in PPTP access in 10.2.

    The old software (Tunnel Builder) which ran under OS 9, did not work with Astaro.

    All in all, it works reasonably well... But when I am connected from home via the VPN (As I am right now) I can surf OK, but can't check my email or send any. That's a bit of a problem.
