the remote VPN gateway requests a phase one lifetime
of 168 hours - pretty long in my opinion ;-)

I assume that you are on version two and you cannot 
influence the timers manually, so the only way is to ask the
remote admin to change this value to 28800
(ISAKMP IKE LIFETIME), by the way the timer for
Phase 2 is 3600s (IPSEC SA LIFETIME) in version 2.

Even in version 3 the maximum lifetime for phase 
one is 28800s.

Oh sorry, I have read your footer too late - you
are on version 3.2, lucky my answers is valid for both
versions

The remote end my the way is a FIREWALL-1. I will contact the admin and ask him to change the "lifetime" to 28800.
