btw... I am running w2k ias on the inside
and the fw version is 2.026

    You are running the PPTP Road Warrior daemon ?

    Set a user to have PPTP access on the ASL box.
    Activate PPTP Road Warrior feature on ASL.
    (I've set mine to use PPTP-Pool for assigning IP addresses.)

    Connect using the PPTP client from Win2K using the user info you setup on ASL.

    It should connect. (Do not specify Domain info on the client, just user and password).
