VPN with a subnet

Hello,

     I can get a host with exact IP to VPN with ASL using a sharekey.  But, when I try to expand that IP to a subnet, it no longer works.  Is this because NET to NET only works between ASL?  or sharekey does not work for subnet?  I am using ASL 2.0.16.
