VPN Accelerator Card?

If you look at the pricing of such cards: forget it!
Use a bigger hardware for half the price and you will get nearly the same performance !

The only reason to use such cards is the key-management and key-storage inside the card (this is only possible in the high-end-cards).

check out 3com's NIC with onboard 3xp proc.

it retails for ~99 USD

Before you run out and purchase that card, I would do a little research.  3com didn't originaly support process off-loading on LINUX, and even if they did it would mean that the special driver would have to be built into ASL, so you could be in for quite a bit of work.  I have lab tested a 1.26 Ghz PIII with 30mbs of 3des with ASL and the cpu hit about 75% utilization.  It would be rare that you would require more throughput than that.  If so, Try ASL on Athlon XP 2000 or P4.

And on top of that, Astaro uses FreeS/WAN. 
As far as I know there are only two patches available which add hw-acc support to it.
Bpth are for OEM chipsets, mostly user in the embedded market, there is no pci card available.

I think they should add other algorithms to it, that would speed up vpn to 60-70 MBs i think.

Isn't that enough?
