IPSEC and CPU Utilization

We currently are running 2.016 with 1.2Ghz IBM 342 server. Plenty of horsepower  [;)] . 

We have one IPSEC tunnel established to a remote site as well as some DNAT translations to our protected servers.

We are using preshared keys (manual) and MD5. When the tunnel goes down for whatever reason we are seeing 100% CPU utilization and the servers behind the firewall and the firewall itself become almost useless. We didn't see this until after we enabled the VPN tunnel
