Hi,
i try to configure a PPTP VPN (for the first time, plz be patient with me). My goal is to have access to my internal servers from at home.
My setup is easy, i have a ASL 3.031 with 2 NICs, the internal network has 192.168.0.0 and is translated to the external address of my ASL box. If a make PPTP, i use 192.168.0.0 as PPTP Pool, just to keep it easy.
Now, when i make PPTP the firewall gets my request, asks for the login and assigns me a IP address in the rane of 192.168.0.0.
One thing that looks strange is the IP Settings i get from the firewall, i don't get a DNS Server assigned (also i run DHCP on my ASL box serving the network 192.168.0.0) and i get the same IP address as default gateway as i get for my remote machine, ipconfig /all gives me:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-53-45-00-00-00
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.2
If i try now to map a network drive, the firewall drops the traffic, i can see that in the live log. Even if i set rule #1 Any Any Any Allow, it drops my traffic.
An other problem is the connection, i use XP Home Edition, the PPTP connection is not stable, it disconnects with no reason from time to time.
What am i doing wrong???
thx,
Andy.
