People have finally figured out how to get the pptp-linux client software working with recent 2.4 kernels. However, I have yet to get the client to work against the ASL box. I think it all boils down to needing sample configurations from Astaro developers for this. I have used the defaults on my client in /etc/ppp/options.pptp. If I use noauth, it timeouts as expected since no auth happened. However, if I use the suggested "+chapms-v2" argument, along with "mppe-128" it doesn't work with ASL 2.0.21. Rather, it complains that "the remote system (pptp) is required to authenticate itself but I couldn't find any suitable secret (password) for it to use to do so. (None of the available passwords would let it use an IP address).
my /etc/options/chap-secrets is as follows:
jlittle pptp *****
pptp jlittle *****
***** representing the secret/password. This should work since the client defines the VPN connection as pptp, and it is so configured on the ASL box the same way (user account is jlittle).
Has anybody successfully configured this to work.. and if so, can they pass in example configs? I'm using pptp-linux 1.0.3 from CVS (all patched up).
Its great to use ASL for our Windows clients, but the majority of our RoadWarriors use Linux. This is a major stumbling block.
