PoPToP MTU problem

TN5250 doesn't work with PoPToP.  I've tried all sorts of MTU settings.  I just finished trying SnapGear.  No luck, they also imbed PoPToP.  I can't buy any products with PoPToP imbedded.  Can anyone give me a response...?

  • I also did a quick glance around the web to see what I could find, but turned up empty-handed.

One suggestion: I COULD help to double-encapsulate the traffic with ssh (so, using an SSH tunnel inside the PPP connection).

You'd have to run a windows SSH implementation able to do port forwarding on your client, lauching it with a batch file after the PPTP connect. It should forward a local port (127.0.0.1:XXXX) to the ASL box, targetting the TN5250 host from there.

If you want to try this, you can ask here for the details  [:)]

  • Thanks Tom:

Let's give it shot.  What do I need to do?

  • get and install CygWin at
     http://sources.redhat.com/cygwin/

you only need the packages for running the included ssh client. You can also use another windows ssh client able to do port forwarding.

    1. start PPTP connect
    2. run ssh:

    3. log in with the "loginuser" password

In ? good ! now connect your terminal client to 127.0.0.1:6666. You get the idea ?

    hope it works.

  • Thanks, I'll give that a try....
