Endpoint Protection Download Scanning

When creating a policy for Endpoint Protection, one of the options allows enabling web protection and download scanning. What does the option actually do? Wouldn't the antivirus scan all downloads anyway?

Also, what does the "Block Malicious Sites" do? Does it block sites based on a policy I have in Web Filtering or does it block them if Sophos lists the website as being compromised?

I went through the manual and I want to make sure that I'm reading it correctly.

  • isn't configuring the policy for Endpoint Protection exactly the same as configuring other policies?

Malicious sites category is used for sub-categories like phishing sites, known malware domains, web ads/tracking and stuff like that. I can't exactly recall the exact sub-categories, but I will edit this tonight [;)]

That's what I thought. I was just wondering why would I need to explicitly enable web protection and download scanning. This is something I would expect the AV to just do.
  • well, the settings are the same for all profiles. I think it won't actually be used in this case
