Endpoint Home edition VM

My grandmother's Norton subscription ends soon. Can I set up a VM of UTM home edition for her, get the endpoint installer and then keep UTM VM shutdown? Not looking to replace her router - just get the AV.

Alternatively can I let her use one of my home Endpoint licenses?

Thanks

  • I think the latter is better. The endpoints do communicate status to the UTM (probably through Sophos' own systems and not directly).
With your home license you have 12 endpoint licenses and you'll be able to monitor the endpoint from within your UTM.

Sometimes I post some useful tips on my blog, see blog.pijnappels.eu/category/sophos/ for Sophos related posts.

  • I tend to agree. Either way seems legal though if home use only.

If the endpoints update defs from Sophos maybe I can still do #1 and boot VM weekly to check endpoints.
  • Sophos has some newer videos out actually describing the Sophos endpoint client and how it can be used outside of the network that the UTM is on and still enforce it's policy from outside the network, without the need for the client to ever check into the "office network"

Check out this link and scroll down page and play the video next to "Proven Endpoint Antivirus"

From my understanding you can just install the client on grandma's computer and enforce policies on it with the web filter, just like the UTM.  So, if you want to keep grandma off of those naughty **** sites, you could just activate it on the UTM and it would be filtered off her computer [;)] [:D]
