UTM Home Edition and File Server

Hi, I am trying to setup a dedicated firewall/router/all-in-one machine. I wonder if Sophos UTM Home Edition can be a file server as well like Zentyal? I have a (very) basic understanding of firewall and aware that it may not be a good idea to have file server and firewall in the same machine but I want to try anyways. Any input is appreciated.

    dreamerman the answer is no.  UTM is only a firewall.  Putting your file services on the firewall just means you are compromising the security the firewall is supposed to be giving you.  I've used Zentyal and they don't recommend combining the two roles on the same machine.  Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

    You can setup an free vmware esxi/vsphere environment. So you can use all services in dedicated VMs on one piece of hardware (in terms of power consumption etc.).

    But please, don't use file services (samba/cifs) on a firewall/utm.
