AV engine restarts?

I'm looking at the log of a VM on which I recently installed Endpoint Protection, and I notice multiple instances of the following sequence of events: 
20140120 210454	User (NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM) has stopped on-access scanning for this machine.

20140120 210501	Using detection data version 4.97G (detection engine 3.48.0). This version can detect 6306666 items.

20140120 210501	User (NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM) has started on-access scanning for this machine.

It seems that something is causing the AV engine to restart several times per day - is this normal behavior?

    Update: I'm seeing the same sequence of events in the log of another VM as well, at approximately the same times.  Is this perhaps a byproduct of the endpoints receiving updated signatures from the cloud?
