Browsing Speed & Web Protection

As posted in an earlier post, we are thinking of using the End Point Protection provided in the UTM instead of the Sophos Enterprise Manager.  I have removed SAV from a computer that was installed by EM.  I then used the End Point download from the UTM to install SAV. Both installs had Web Protection enabled.

After making the change, it seems the browsing speed is noticeably slower. When I disable Web Protection, it seems to speed things up (back to normal).  The computer I am testing with is a desktop that sits behind the UTM.  

I guess I am at loss to why there is a difference.  I believe I am installing the same product but with a different update configuration.

Any thoughts on why web protection would noticeably slow down the web browser?

    Hi, David,

    I have no idea.  However, I don't understand why you would enable URL Filtering on a desktop in your network as the same check is then made both by Endpoint and the UTM.

    My test system is a desktop.  However, most of our computers here are laptops.   These laptops are used inside and outside our network.  Is there a way to enable web protection only when the the computers are outside our network?
