Endpoint agent causes laptop freeze during update

I have installed Endpoint agent on Windows 7 64-bit laptop with 8GB memory and i7-2630 (Quad core HT) CPU. I come back from work, the laptop is in sleep mode. I start the laptop, the agent starts updating, freezes the laptop. I cannot run any program, not even task manager. This lasts for 10-11 minutes. Once the update completes, all programs start running normally. Even the programs I had clicked during freeze, start up.

This does not seem to be a normal behavior.  
01. Why the update should freeze the laptop?
02. Why the update takes 10-11 minutes to complete?

Any ideas?

    Actually, it messed up my laptop to an extent that I had to restore to factory defaults and re-install everything. When the agent is installed, it uninstalls everything that it does not like. It uninstalled Microsoft Security Essentials and two other programs. After that, I found that my Windows Home Server had trouble backing up the laptop. It could not create a volume shadow copy. I tried everything that I could find through Google but nothing worked. Finally, I decided to restore and rebuild. Never again I am going to touch this piece of junk agent.
