QOS definem values and limit aplications

Hello all!

O would aprecciate some help from the comunity concerning UTM 9 for home.

My setup at home is a ISP internet line with 14MB download and 1MB upload, we have a couple of computers where the kids play, a Apple TV for media streming like netflix, and some ipads and android phones.

My kids like to play on Steam and chat with theirs frinds on skype. I mayself like to make some dowloads and watch some movies on net flix.

All this as done by the ISP router but i felt like it was time to improve our network and installe Sophos UTM9. And find it a great software. I learned a lot abou it on youtube and here in the foruns.

I just cant figure out the QOS thing.

I would like to be able to make my downloads at full speed if i am the only one accessing the internet, but if my kids start playing or we go and see some Netflix on the Apple TV i would like the network to automaticaly reserve some bandwith for this services, is it possible? can you point me to some examples so that i can set this?

I have 2 intherfaces on the Sophos machine, eth0 for ISP and eth1 for local lan, i cant figure out what values to place on each one of this interfaces for the QoS, or should I place only values for one of the interfaces, and wich one?

I understand the "selectors" thing but not very well the "bandwith pools" and the "throttling", becouse I tried some testing and could not see any efect related to the settings. For example a set up a bandwith pool for youtube with minimum 500kb/s and when i activated it the videos on youtube could not go more than 120Kbs (i seen it in the flow monitor)

also 2 more questions does Qos only works if i activate aplication control? Does it work if i have the webfiltering in tranparent mode without autentication or i must have autentication activated?

some other thing, for my kids i add to open some ports for steam to work, does this means i am less secure now? could i for example open the steam ports only for some particulary PC?

sorry for my long text i really would apreciate some help. many thanks,

paulo
