UTM home cannot access specific sites

Hello,

I have a strange occurrence. I have activated Intrusion Prevention and I had also the Web protection which for now I have turned off. I have forced every device in my house to go through the UTM9.

Even though everything is a bit slower, it is acceptably ok to browse the internet. However, two specific websites are next to impossible to open: youtube.com and bbc.co.uk.

I have no idea why nor I know where I can check it!

Any ideas would be appreciated!

  • Please allow me to correct this. ALL HTTPS pages are a problem. Either not loading them, or I have to reload them a couple of times before they work, or they don't work.

Here is my dashboard at this moment:

Firewall is active with 8 rules

    RED is inactive
    Wireless Protection is inactive
    Endpoint Protection is inactive

    Site-to-Site VPN is inactive

    Web Application Firewall is active

Sophos UTM Manager is not configured

  • Since Web Filtering is disabled, your problem has to be in Firewall Rules, DNS, or speed-duplex mismatch on a NIC.   To avoid speed-duplex problems, ensure that all devices are set to Auto-Auto.

  • That helped but it is still a bit slow.

I wonder though why using the Web Protection is "normal" to be very slow? In implementation that i have done to different companies using hardware UTM it wasn't slow.

I am asking because i do want to use the Web Protection.

  • Vasileios, does doing #1 in Rulz give any information?  If not, then how does your configuration compare to DNS best practice?

    Cheers - Bob
