Server load balancing persistence timeout

How is that timeout exactly measured?
Is it the time since the start of the TCP connection , or is it the time since the last data frame seen from that particular source IP, or is it the time since the end of the TCP connection or ... ?

I don't find that info in the docs and badly need it for correctly setting that timeout value in load balancing WCF services with transport and message security.

The UTM software version is 9.411-3.

Stefaan

  • Hi, Stefaan, and welcome to the UTM Community!

From the time the health status check is sent.  To see the details, check the context-sensitive Help by pressing the blue button at the top of the page.

  • Hi Bob, the question is about the interface persistence timeout, *not* the health check timeout.

    The context-sensitive Help says:

Persistence: Interface persistence is a technique which ensures that subsequent connections from a client are always routed over the same uplink interface. Persistence has a default timeout of one hour. You can also disable interface persistence for this balancing rule.

  • Ahhh, of course, Stefaan!  In general in WebAdmin, that's understood as the last contact, but I've never tested that.  This would be a good question to pose to Sophos.  Please share their confirmation or rejection of my suggestion.

    Cheers - Bob
