Synology has no access to internet (e.g. system update or CloudStation)

Good Morning, Evening or Afternoon

I'm playing around with UTM9 for about a week now but I didn't figure out how to allow my synology diskstation to access the internet. I wanted to allow: the system to check for updates and download them, the package manager to do the same, the CloudStation to sync with DropBox, google drive, onedrive, and pyLoad to download files.

I thought it would be enough the create the following DNAT-rule:

  • For traffic from: Any
  • Using service:
    • type: TCP
    • destination port: 5000,5001,6690
    • source port: 1:65535
  • going to: WAN (Address)
  • Change the destination to: synology(host), specified with static IPv4 and MAC address
  • Automatic firewall rule: check

What am I missing that it doesn't work?

Furthermore: pyLoad itself is ultra slow - not the downloadspeed (as I am not yet able to test this) - but just switching tabs withing pyLoad takes ages. What could be the reason for this behaviour? It's not that slow if access without the utm.

Thank you very much in advance for every advice.

  • to the first question. You need DNAT rules if you want you to connect to the synology from the internet.

The synology should using HTTP(s) to check/download firmware. Do you use the web proxy or do you have an firewall rule to allow traffic from internal network to port 80 and 443 ?
