Web Filter - Logout authenticated user in browser

Hello,

We have the Web Filtering option enabled on our SG105 UTM. We would like to know how a user can logout from a session using the browser. Is there a specific web address that he/she needs to visit to do so?

We have a single PC that is operated by more than one user which have different web filtering policies. Currently, we can't seem to find a way to logout a user who has already authenticated. The session continues even when we restart the browser. We are using Google Chrome.

Thanks,

  • Hi Rani,

I think it is not possible to force log out an authenticated user. I am working out of office and couldn't get hold on a test UTM to check if there is a way but, I found a feature request to logout users. Check,

    http://ideas.sophos.com/forums/17359-utm-formerly-asg-feature-requests/suggestions/1642239-web-protection-force-logout-of-an-authenticated-us

Try to disable the User and flush the authentication cache as a workaround if the feature is really not available in UTM.

    Thanks

  • Sachin gave you the answer for your current setup.  You could reduce the time that credentials are cached from 15 minutes, but that's probably not practical.

I have a suggestion for a possible workaround.  I haven't tried it, but it should work...

Instead of using browser authentication, use the Sophos Authentication Agent.  Set up a Web Filtering Profile for only the shared machine by putting only a Host object for the shared machine in 'Allowed Networks'.  Select 'Default Authentication: Agent'.  The shared machine will need to have the Agent installed separately under each User on the shared PC.  When a user leaves the PC, the user must log off so that the next user browses with the correct credentials.   Did that do what you want?

    Cheers - Bob
