MAC FIltering Question

Hi all,

 

I'm trying to do MAC filtering for a client.  However, I'm not sure if what they're asking is possible.  They want to give me a list of MAC addresses to whitelist to the Internet, then blacklist any MAC address not on that list.  I can make firewall rules to blacklist MAC addresses, UTMbut I can't seem to find where to ban any MAC address not whitelisted.

  • Isn't the definition of whitelist, that only the Adresses on it are allowed and all others automaticly blocked, whereas blacklist means everything allowed besides the adresses on the list?

    Sorry but I really dont get what the question here is.

  • In general in WebAdmin, "Whitelist" means "Regardless of other settings, these specific items are allowed."  "Blacklist" means "Regardless of other settings, these items are NOT allowed."

    The only place where you can declare Blacklist/Whitelist in the way you defined it, David, is on the 'Categories' tab in a Web Filtering Filter Action.
