Internal Webserver

This should be really simple but I can't figure it out nor can I find any discussion.

I have a webserver for internal use only that is working fine. I can access it by typing 192.168.2.200/websitename

.

How do I set things up so that something like websitename.internal could be used to access the site rather than having to use the ip address?

  • Hello Carlos,

If you are using the UTM as a DNS server, you can add a Network Host Definition for this IP address. When you edit the object, expand the 'DNS Settings' and add the host name you wish to use. When the UTM receives a DNS request for your new hostname, it will reference its own objects first and find the IP you configured.

  • I eventually figured that out this morning. It isn't perfect but it will work.

Ideally I wanted to have abc.internal fo to 192.168.2.200/abc and xyz.internal go to 192.168.2.200/xyz for different sites but that doesn't seem possible using Sophos but maybe a Apache can address that with virtual hosts.

I also don't like that it switches to the IP number in the broswer rather than display the url but I can live with that.

  • You would use a reverse proxy for this.  It can be set up under Web Server Protection.  Read the documentation and you should be able to make it work.
