Chromecast Audio cannot stream audio

Hello!
I have recently bought a Chromecast Audio and tried to hook it up in my network. All went good and it was no problem to set it up.
When I try to cast audio I get the signal in the chromecast that it is starting to stream, but my devices (android phone and ipad) can
not successfully connect when trying to cast so no sound can be delivered to the chromecast.
Spotify works perfectly on both devices and the chromecast audio device is visible in spotify, but spotify just says "connecting..." and
then it times out.

I seriously think the UTM is the problem and I need to know how I can configure the UTM so this works?
In the FAQ for the device it says that upnp should be enabled, but the UTM doesn't have upnp, am I right?

Kinda tired of all struggle with the firewall :P
Please help me!

  • Update on this issue:
I tried to stream music from player.spotify.com in chrome web browser from my macbook pro (connected via the same accesspoint as my phone and chromecast audio).
This was completely successfull! In other words, I am able to stream from a tab (via the cast extension in chrome) to the chromecast audio, without setting up anything in my firewall regarding this.
Bad thing I can still not initiate a stream from my ipad or my android phone. Does not see the difference? All devices are connected wirelessly..

Can somebody else try and see if this approach also works for you? (Stream a tab from chrome via cast extension. For example login to spotify from the web browser and stream that tab in chrome)

  • Hi Widdde,

I have tested this and it also worked. But what I see is that if I close the the laptop, the music stops. This is different from when I use a radio app on my iphone the cast. When I stop the app, the music keeps playing. So there is a difference.

    Kind regards,

    Ivo Frenken

  • You are absolutely right!

    No news regarding this issue?

  • Do any of you see broadcast traffic (traffic to 255.255.255.255 or yoursubnet.255) being blocked by the firewall?

What do your settings look like in firewall-ICMP? Do you have Allow ICMP on gateway and Allow ICMP through gateway enabled?

  • No I don't think I have seen any traffic to 255.255.255.255 being blocked. (I am using subnet 255.255.255.0 for my networks)

Right now I have only "Allow ICMP through gateway" enabled, but I have tried them all enabled without any change..

  • Hi!
