Implied NAT?

Hi All,

I'm approaching the end of a 30 day evaluation of Sophos UTM Software Appliance (Version 9.355.1) and have a query that maybe someone will be able to clear up for me in relation to Network Address Translation.

I have set the default gateway on our UTM instance to an IP Address which is a physical interface on another firewall upstream from the UTM. When I check the logs on the upstream firewall I can see web traffic coming from the external IP Address of the UTM. This is before I have configured any type of NAT (masquerading or otherwise).

Is there some sort of implied NAT going on here? I expected to have to configure a NAT rule to allow traffic through, therefore hiding the IP Addresses of my LAN. However, everything seems to work OK without any NAT rules being configured.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

John P
