I have recently set up an sophos UTM (on a computer).
I have a ubiquiti edge router before the sophos firewall and all my other computers after the firewall.
During the setup I got questions which services I wanted to get access to and the choices fell on DNS, WebSurfing and e-mail.
The firewall also acts as a dhcp-server and my computers get ip-adresses from the firewall.
Masquerading is activated between my private lan and "internet" (my edgerouter).
I have 3 firewall rules that is accepting "websurfing" (http, https etc), access to dns and so on..
Everything works out of the box, I can access internet and so on..
My issue is when I disable the firewall rules or set them to reject the traffic instead.. I can still surf the net! Why is that? What is wrong?
Why can I still access internet when I have disabled the accepting rules?
The 3 rules is all I have and I can not understand why the net is not blocked when deactivating the rules or simply set them to drop or reject instead of accept..
Can somebody explain why it is like this?
If I disable masquerading the internet stops working..
I assume I need masquerading or NAT to get the traffic working at all?
(Why I do this is to test how the firewall works, and right now I can't understand why the firewall doesn't block the traffic. In normal use I of course want to accept web surfing and so on..)
