getting only 10% of the allocated bandwidth on my UTM even after upgrades

initially, for my home setup, i was running my UTM on an AMD e350.  TWC upgraded me to the 200mbit services, and i could never get more than 20-25mbits downstream.  from this board, i was advised that this processor was completely inadequate to handle the 200mbits, so i upgraded to an AMD 5350, which again was giving me about 20-25mits; again, from this board, i was advised that this was inadequate.

so what i did was create a VM on my i7 950 using two cores and allocating 16GB to a new UTM and again, i'm getting no more than 20-25mbits downstream.

i'm completely dumbfounded as to what's going on.  as with all three setups, i'm running IDS, web filtering, and ATP.  there are only three users that really use the internet at home, and even then it's used primarily for web browsing, and the occasional streaming, so nothing is constantly nabbing huge portions of the downstream limit.

one thing i did notice is that the RAM usage is fairly high.  initially, i allocated 8GB, which is what the previous two UTMs used without any issues, but with this VM, 8GB was always maxed out, and even with the 16GB allocation, RAM usage is at about 75%.  while running speedtest, the CPU runs at about 5%.  oh yeah, i'm running 9.315-2.

any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

    Do you have anything configured in the QoS section?

    Which features are you using?
    More than 8GB RAM usage is VERY high for a home setup!

    i, myself, added nothing active in the QoS section.  there are two default entries that are disabled for the internal and external interfaces.

    i'm using the services i mentioned earlier, as well as the endpoint protection, and i will also use the SSL vpn.

    all these services were used on the e-350, without much issue (other than the slower downloads).

    the e-350 and the 5350 both have 8gb, and each of the systems didn't use anywhere near the 8GB.

    i really don't know what's going on with this setup.

    What NICs do you have (vendor)?
    Which processes are taking that much RAM (look in WebAdmin -> Support -> Advanced -> Process List -> high values in column "%MEM")?

    now that you have adequate hardware you have a serious misconfiguration somewhere.  Either your nics or you have qos turned on.  on the vmware side make sure you have the nic set to gigabit.  also what type of virtual nic are you using in the vm?  I am a hyper-v guy so i am not well versed in vmware.  Also how much ghz do you have allocated to the vm and how many vcpus?

    drop it down to 8 gigs.  if you restored a backup reinstall and rebuild.  There may be a corruption inside the backup as well.  Did you ever do any of the web proxy tricks mentioned throughout these forums?  If sok definitly rebuild from the ground up.

    thanks for all the responses.

    TWC sent a tech out.  his testing showed 200mbit+ from the cable modem directly.  he then tried from behind the UTM, and 200mbit+ again!  then he tried from the switch in one of the rooms and again 200mbit+.

    i felt quite sheepish about it.  turns out that he changed a connector at the junction outside, because it looked odd to him.

    i'm not sure if that did it or not, but things seem to be working a lot better now, *knock on wood*.

    the UTM is still running high on memory usage though.  i dropped it down to 8GB, and it's utilizing about 73%+.  i will make a backup and reinstall.
